About Football Tasmania

About Us

As the State governing body for all football (soccer) in Tasmania, we strive towards the delivery of our 5-year objectives, which include ensuring infrastructure and facilities meet the needs of our community, growing participation across all areas of the game, improving retention of players and referees, building strong and sustainable clubs and providing broader and more needs-based competition structures.

Football is the most popular sport of Tasmania's young people, which means our biggest challenge is finding enough space for our growing number of players.

With participation rates booming following the incredible success of the Matildas and the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup, it is important forward planning and upgrades to facilities are considered now so future players are not turned away from enjoying the benefits of playing football because of a lack of available playing space.

The link between playing sport and improved health outcomes for the community – both physically and mentally – is widely accepted. Football Tasmania is committed to the continued growth of football to prepare Tasmania’s next generation for a healthy and rewarding life.

In addition to wide-reaching health benefits, football’s global appeal gives the sport the ability to inspire and engage diverse communities like no other sport can, providing immeasurable benefits to community spirit and togetherness.

Football also makes an economic contribution to the Tasmanian economy of in excess of $28 million per annum, including more than $15 million attributed to the tremendous value that volunteers provide.
